Mission Statement

Friendliness:

Bi Irish welcomes and strives to provide support for all self-identified bisexuals as well as straight-, gay- or lesbian- identified people questioning their sexuality. We want to help people connect with themselves, accept themselves, and celebrate their unique identities.

Recognise Diversity:

Beyond the exploration and validation of bisexual identities, Bi Irish strives for inclusiveness and diversity. Therefore, we honour all sexual identities and all forms of consensual, nonexploitative sexuality. Crossing boundaries is an integral part of bisexual identity and we hope never to stop being challenged on matters of sex, body, gender and other relevant realities.

Space:

We strive to create space - both physically and socially - where this kind of exploration can take place and where bisexuals and their friends can meet, have fun, make friends, fall in love...

Make Connections:

To reach these goals and to support our fellow queers, Bi Irish aims to network with bi groups, queer groups, women's groups, support groups, and health services in Ireland, the UK and internationally.

Educate Ourselves and Society:

In identifying as bisexual, this is to say that we are not "sitting on the fence"; we merely find it unhelpful, unnecessary and not integrating to the self to say that we prefer one sex sexually or emotionally over the other. We recognise that our sexuality is a fluid entity, constantly reconstructed afresh. While respect for others is a fundamental, we encourage the exploration of new aspects of the self and the questioning of traditional gender boundaries. In doing so we hope to begin to build a group that is open, supportive and connected to society at large.
